Mollloy, 1276 East Orchard street, and Ensign John J. O'Brien, navy Helldiver pilot, left, took part in the sinking of the Jap battleship Yamoto off Kyushu on April 7. A 1943 graduate of Decatur high school, Radioman Molloy received boot training at the Great Lakes naval training station and radio and gunnery training at DeLand, Fla., and Memphis, Tenn. he enlisted in the navy in July, 1943. The photo was made at their Pacific base." Written on back of photo; "Jap Battleship Blasters--Ensign John J. O'Brien, USNR, (left) Navy Helldiver pilot of 28 Waldron Avenue, Cranston, Rhode Island and his radioman and gunner John J. Molloy, Aviation Radioman Third Class, USNR, (right), of 1276 East Orchard Street, Decatur, Illinois, took part in the sinking of the Jap battleship Yamoto off Kyushu on April 7th. they stand proudly by their mighty HELLDIVER."
