Description

This is a collection of photographs from the Foulk family. Dortha Foulk McDonald gave these photographs to her niece, Vicki Golden, who then donated them to the Local History Department at the Decatur Public Library. Ms. Golden's grandfather was from Illinois, and his aunt, Ella Foulk Converse, lived in in Decatur with her husband, Burton E. Converse. These photos were hers originally. Ella Foulk Converse was born Ella Foulk near Benton, IL on January 26, 1876. She married Burton E. Converse on October 6, 1895. Burton was associated with the Douglas County Telephone Company for 29 years before becoming the Vice President and manager of the Standard Telephone Company in Decatur in 1927. He died on July 27, 1940. Ella was a member of a Baptist Church near Benton, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Decatur Chapter No. 111 for 50 years. She died on March 29, 1955 after being found unconscious in her home at 724 W. Main St.
