Description

Photograph of Decatur Tabernacle Building. "Sunday, William "Billy" Sunday --Decatur Tabernacle. Evangelist Billy Sunday conducted meetings in this tabernacle at Union and West Eldorado streets, where the First United Brethren church now stands, in February and March, 1908. The building seated 5,000 but often had 6,000 crowded into it. The earth floor was covered with sawdust. The building contained 91,000 feet of lumber and it took 200 rolls of tar paper to cover the roof. Photo ran Sept. 9, 1935."
