Herald and Review Library: Smith, Lloyd J., Jr., Article on back of photo; "Pvt. Lloyd J. Smith, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Smith, 675 South Sixteenth street, is stationed at Baton Rouge, La., where he is waiting to go into aviation cadet training, having passed all preliminary tests. Prior to joining the service he was employed by Herald and Review." Article: "Wings for Lloyd Smith; Lloyd Smith was commissioned second lieutenant at Lubbock Texas, on Aug. 30, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Smith, 675 South Sixteenth street. The youth enlisted June 2, 1942 and received his pre-flight training at San Antonio, Texas. He later was stationed at Brady and Waco, Texas. Following his commission, Lieutenant Smith was assigned to Clovis, N. M. A former Herald -Review employee, he was a Millikin student at the time he enlisted."
