Herald and Review Library: Stearns, Richard E., Article on back of photo; "Flight Officer Stearns; Richard E. Stearns, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Stearns, 603 East Condit street, recently received his silver wings and was appointed a flight officer in the army air forces, according to an announcement by the commanding officer of the San Marcos, Texas air field. Flight Officer Stearns entered service in July, 1943 and received cadet training at Keesler Field, Miss. He is a graduate of Decatur high school and was formerly employed by the Wabash Railroad Co."
