Herald and Review Library: Photo of 189 Draftees in front of the Macon County, IL. Courthouse: Article on back of photo: "The 189 men Decatur and Macon county is sending to the army to fill its June draft quota met for final instructions in the county building this morning. They will board a Wabash train about 3 a.m. Monday for Chicago where they will be inducted.
Leaders of the draftees were appointed and given their instructions this morning. They are: Decatur board no. 1 - Attorney E. Wayne Schroeder, assisted by Charles Young, John Knox and Robert Shulke. Decatur board No. 2 - Fire Department Captain Edward Adam Bretz, assisted by William Wright Foster and Byron Otis Phares. Rural board - Kirby F. Post, assisted by Lyle J. Hoover, Cecil Elan, Eldon Dale Miller, and Woodrow Cox. The young men when they assembled this morning, for last instructions before entraining were addressed by Major W. Lutz Krigbaum, commanding officer of the Decatur reserve district."
