Fred; Article on back of photo; "We Have Been Too Easy; Much greater firmness should be exercised by the peace-loving nations in their international relations, it is advocated by Cpl. Fred Horne, whose 34 months of service with the infantry into repeated contact with war at its worst. Corporal Horne was in the thick of the fighting on Guadacanal and at Bougainville, and is convinced the Japs, when engaged in war, are 'barbarians.' 'We have been too easy.' Corporal Horne declared. 'When it was apparent that japan and Germany were getting ready for a new war, we sat by and hoped what we saw in preparation, would never happen. Not only did the non-aggressor nations fail to band together to stop these preparations at a stage when t hey would have been much easier to stop, but they failed to prepare themselves to meet them when the storm broke. 'Appeasement, and hoping all will turn and right are not the proper means in employ in dealing with international bullies, and the slaughter and expense in money and resources this war is costing ought to be proof enough to convince anyone.' Corporal Home would like to see an international program set up for enforcing the peace with all the nations talking part. 'Those of us in the foxholes and the fighting....."`
