Description

Herald and Review Library: Kennedy, Pfc. Frank M.; Article on back of photo; "Little Hope for Japanese, Pfc. Frank M. Kennedy, who has been in the South Pacific 33 months with a machine-gun company, and took part in the Papuan and New Guinea campaigns, reports that'most of the boys see little hope of doing anything constructive with the Japs..' 'they seem to have been imbued with the war spirit since childhood' he said, 'and find their greatest glory in dying for their emperor. They display a cunning and cruelty that could only have been acquired by long teaching. 'It looks as if we would just have to drive them back onto their original islands and box them up there. By keeping a strong navy in the South Pacific and fortified bases on the islands surrounding Japan we can keep them from starting another war.'"
