WWII - Herald and Review Library; Cohn, Estelle R., 7/27/1945. Note on back of photo: Camp Lejeune, N.C. Marine 2nd Lt. Estelle R. Cohn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis H. Cohn of 3 Lincoln Place, Decatur, IL. was commissioned recently. Lt. Cohn joined the Marine Corps in August, 1943, and served for a time in the enlisted ranks before being selected for officer training. She previously held the rank of sergeant and was on duty as a stenographer in the office of the Sergeant Major of the Engineer Battalion at this camp. The Marine office was graduated from the University of Illinois, class of 1942, with a bachelor of science degree. Prior to her enlisting she was employed as a secretary by the E. G. James Company, Chicago, Illinois." Article from the Decatur Herald and Review: "Marine Second Lieutenant Estelle R. Cohn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis H. Cohn, 20 Lincoln place, who was commissioned at Camp Lejeune, N. C. and has just finished four weeks of additional schooling there will arrive home Sunday for ten days with her parents. She joined the Marines in August of 1943 and served as a stenographer in the office in Camp Lejeune with the rank of a sergeant before being selected for officer training. Before enlisting, Lieutenant Cohn was graduated from the University of Illinois was was employed as a secretary by E. G. James Company in Chicago. She has been assigned to the Marine base at Quantico, VA."
