Herald and Review Library: Nicholls, Maj. Howard A.; Article on back of photo; "With the Colors, H. A. Nicholls Is Now Major; Howard A. Nicholls, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Nicholls, of rural route 3, Decatur, has been promoted to the rank of major. Major Nicholls is operations officer for the 310th ferrying squadron to which he has been assigned since October 1943. He joined the Royal Canadian air force in November, 1940 and remained with the Canadians as flight instructor until May, 1942, when he was given a commission in the U. S. Air Force. Prior to entering service he was employed by the Wells Oil Co., of Decatur."
