Description

Herald and Review Library: Oswald, Sgt. Earl E., Article on back of photo; "Sgt. Earl e. Oswald, who was wounded twice and kept on fighting in the Tunisian campaign, is home on furlough from North Africa and Sicily. He and his pretty North Carolina born wife, Chloe, are visiting his mother, Mrs. Julia a. Oswald, 1189 West Sunset avenue. Sergeant Oswald has little to say about himself but thinks his outfit is the greatest bunch of fighters on any battlefront. Apparently there are others that share his opinion because the Stars and Stripes, the army overseas newspaper, recently termed it the 'Ninth infantry that bars nothing-except the path of the enemy.' In the soldiers' paper they write about the converted cavalry colonel with the ninth infantry division who, seeing his men pinned down by enemy fire during an attack on Troina, Sicily, stood up in the midst of the hail of bullets and personally led them in the successful advance."
