WWII - Herald and Review Library; Conroy, Mr. & Mrs. Samuel E., 6/4/1944. Article on back of photo: "Staff Sgt. Samuel E. Conroy and his bride of three weeks, the former Velma Hefner, are visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Conroy, 1185 W. Forest Ave. Sgt. Conroy recently returned to this country from England where he had made 25 missions over Germany as waist gunner on a bomber. Sergeant Conroy has the Purple Heart for wounds received in action, the Air Medal, a unit citation for the bombing of Ploesti last August and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He will report to Miami Beach on June 4 for reassignment."
