WWII - Herald and Review Library; Cox, Capt. Forrest M., 5/24/1943. Article on back of photo: "Captain, Real World War Vet, Awarded Six Medals: Capt, Forrest M. Cox, former Decatur pilot, has engaged in aerial battles on nine fronts during the war and earned six medals from several Allied governments. Now working as an instructor at Luke Field, Ariz., he is demonstrating to cadets the flying techniques he has learned facing Japs, Nazis, and Italians in the air. England, Singapore, Sumatra, Java, Ceylon, North Africa, India, China, and Assam were the places where Capt. Cox fought in a space of less than a year and a half. Attended J.M.U.: After leaving Millikin University, where he was a student from 1938 to 1940, he put the flying experience he had gained as a pilot at Decatur airport to good use when he joined the Eagle Squadron of the R.A.F. in England. the blitzes were still on when he teamed up with other American fliers to fly for the R.A.F. and he saw considerable action over the English Channel before being assigned to duty as a catapult pilot of a freighter bound for Singapore."
