Herald and Review Library: Witts, Betty Marie, center; Written on back of photo; "Local Wave Stationed In Hawaiian Islands. These three WAVES from Illinois have reported for duty in the Hawaiian Islands. They are, from left; Miss Norma Jean Treadway, seaman, first class, of 617 Humboldt st., Beardstown; Miss Betty Marie Witts, seaman, first class, of 3835 East Cerro Gordo st., Decatur; and Miss Ella Naomi Barnes, aviation machinist's mate, first class, of 140 Center Cross st., Sycamore. Mrs. Mabel Patchett Sperry, storekeeper, third class, of 1110 East Lindell st., West Frankfort; Miss Mabel Lorene Lamb, yeoman, second class of Illiopolis, and Miss Mary Jane Welch, aviation machinist's mate, second class, of 224 South Randolph st., Macomb, were not present to appear in the photograph."
