WWII - Herald and Review Library; Eaton, Cpl. George Jr., 5/25/1944. Article on back of photo: " Served in Six Foreign Lands: Cpl. George Eaton, Jr., arrived home last Wednesday after 29 months overseas and said he'd like to go fishing - he's already been hunting. The corporal's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Eaton, 1928 North Walnut Grove Ave., had not seen their son since April, 1942, when he went to Peoria to enlist in the air corps. He went directly from Peoria to training camp and within a few months was sent overseas. He has served with the ground crew of an airborne carrier outfit and has eight campaign stars and four presidential citations. He went first to Egypt and later served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, England, France, and Germany. When Corporal Easton arrived home he was not wearing any of his ribbons. He said he didn't want to 'look like a German officer.' The 21-year old corporal was already aboard ship when the Germans surrendered. He will have 21 days to spend with his family, and catching up on the fishing, before he reports for reassignment or his discharge. He has about 116 points on the army discharge system."
