WWII - Herald and Review Library; Eberhart, Sgt. John P., 7/1944. Article on back of photo: "Completes 5....Stg. Eberhart's Crew....: Staff Sgt. John P. Eberhart, son of Dr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Eberhart, 455 West Main St., has completed 50 bombing missions as gunner on a Liberator bomber, according to word from his bas in Italy. te plane, named 'Star Dust,' and nie members of its crew celebrated its return from the 50th mission by dropping flares before it landed from the last mission. 'Our toughest run was over Bucharest, Romania' the young sergeant said. 'On that trip we encountered 100 German fighter plans. We downed at least three of them, but our plane returned to base with more than 50 holes in it.' Staff Sergeant Eberhart is a graduate of Warrensburg high school and was employed in Provo, Utah before enlisting in the air corps. He has been stationed in Italy since January and made his first mission a year to the day from the time of his enlistment. His wife lives at 1045 East Lincoln Avenue, Sergeant Eberhart wears the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf Clusters."
