Herald and Review Library: McGrath, Lt. Jr. Grade Robert; Article on back of photo; "Pacific Sea Battle, by-line Maxine Kyle of Herald and Review; Last August when the cruiser Astoria rolled over in flames and sank in the battle of the Solomons, a Warrensburg man, Ensign Robert McGrath, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. McGrath, jumped for his life and swam to a rescue ship. the redeeming feature, McGrath, now a lieutenant junior grade, said while on leave here the other day was the warm water. Lieutenant McGrath, who was graduated from Annapolis, the spring after Pearl Harbor, added that he has been able to swim for years. He said that he didn't recall how or when he learned, but most likely it was in some creek around Warrensburg."
