Description
Herald and Review Library: Rawlings, Randall; Article on back of photo; "Since entering the navy about a month after Pearl Harbor, Randall Rawlings, fireman first class, of Decatur, has really been around. Pearl Harbor, Palmyra, North Africa, Panama, New Maya, Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Sydney, Australia, and Bougainville are a few of his stops. Home on a brief leave 'between ships' recently, the muscular sailor described a few highlights of his extensive navy travel aboard a destroyer-'the best fighting ship in the navy,' he declares. A veteran of two sea battles and two air battles, Fireman Rawlings and other members of his crew have won for their favorite navy destroyer the credit of four enemy ships sunk, seven aircraft downed, five shore bombardments, one submarine and three enemy barges sunk, the sailor said."
