Description
WWII - Herald and Review Library; DeLaughter, Sgt. Billy Gene 3/11/1945. Article on back of photo: "The present given to Staff Sgt. Billy Gene DeLaughter on his twenty-first birthday, Jan 3, 1945 - was the most welcome ever received. On Jan. 3, the sergeant was told that his days as a German prisoner of war would soon come to an end and that he would be sent to the United States aboard the Swedish exchange ship-Gripsholm. Sergeant DeLaughter, in excellent physical condition, arrived in New York on Feb. 13 and is now spending a 30-day rest leave with his wife, Mae, and grandmother, Mrs. Clara Adams, at 2275 East Hickory Street."
