Yoder, arrived in Decatur Saturday and will be stationed in an office in the Liberal Arts Building at Millikin University during this week to explain the benefits of a naval aviation course to college students.
Sent here by the naval procurement board, Ensign Yoder said that he has just finished an eight months course at the naval aviation school at Pensacola, Fla. he will be sent to some other Illinois city after this week, and then will return to Decatur to spend a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Yoder, of rural route 7.
Although the school prefers college graduates, Ensign Yoder said that young men with tow years college education are being considered to enter the school for a four-year term which leads to a commission as a naval aviator.
Ensign Yoder said that all the fundamentals of flying are taught including flying in basic trainers, then service type ships, with final assignments to the fleet. he said he would explain to prospective aviation students the advantages of taking the course to being drafted, as in that way they could benefit from their college training.
After spending his furlough in Decatur, Ensign Yoder will return to Pensacola as an instructor. He graduated from Millikin last June and immediately entered the Naval school for his training. Mr. Yoder said the he was a pacifist nearly to the point of being an isolationist, but that if he was called upon willing to shoulder his full share in any conflict."
