WWII - Herald and Review Library; Engle, Ensign Grover Lawrence, 12/8/1942. Article on back of photo: "Ensign G. Lawrence Engle, Jr., communications officer on a ship included in t he convoy which lost five transports in putting America's army in North Africa, has returned home for a 10-day visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Engle, Sr., 938 North College street. Ensign Engle enlisted in the navy in July, 1941, attended Northwestern university's navy school and went on active duty in February of this year. He was graduated from Millikin university in 1941, being senior class treasurer, and from Decatur high school in 1937."
