Photograph of Col. W. Lutz Krigbaum taken by Wasson Studio of Decatur, IL. Article on back of photo; "Krigbaum, Col. W. Lutz. During World War I he commanded Decatur's own company A, 124th machine gun battalion, and won a Distinguished Service Cross for service performed in France. The outfit was part of the old Illinois national guard before federalization. During World War II he founded and commanded the limited service school at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He was advanced to full colonel in 1944 after being called back into service in 1940. He also became deputy chief of staff for Wisconsin affairs and was awarded the Legion of Merit for bracing up of limited-duty men. He was retired from the army Dec 18, 1946. Also during World War II he was civil defense commander for Decatur. In 1951, he was chosen by Decatur chapter of D.A. R. to have his name inscribed on the Patriot's Honor Roll of the 95-foot high Stone Memorial Bell Tower the Daughters of the American Revolution are building at Valley Forge, Pa. In 1920 when Co. A incorporated its post-World War I organization, members honored Krigbaum, then a major, by providing that he should be company commander until his death. This is a 1917 photo taken by Wasson of Decatur.
