Photograph of Mrs. Carl C. Block holding her violin. She was Jeanette Powers before she married Carl Block. Mrs. Block died Aug 1, 1942. She lived in Peoria, formerly Decatur. She was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Block & Kuhl Department Store in Peoria. She was violin soloist with John Philip Sousa's band for many years and studied in Berlin under Joachim at the Royal Hochschule. She made numerous concert tours and owned a famous original Stradivarius violin. Her husband was president of Block & Kuhl stores. He died Oct 30, 1939. Photo by VanDeventer of Decatur, IL.
