Description

Photograph of John G. Imboden; (died 10/15/1925). He was internationally known as a cattle man. he was widely recognized as a judge of cattle, having judged in Madison Square Garden in New York and at the Chicago World's Fair. He was for several years president of the Illinois Livestock Breeders Assn. He was first with his father, John Imboden in the cattle slaughtering business at 162 S. Main, His father died in 1880 and he and his brother Cyrus continued in the business. He retired from the meat market business in 1900 and devoted his time to buying, feeding, and sell cattle. Later his son, Edward P. Imboden, became associated with him and the name J.G. Imboden and Son represented prized winning stock at exhibitions for years. He served on several national livestock committees and was connected with the Breeders Gazette Magazine. His home was known as Wayside Place, three-fourths of a mile south of Lake Decatur on the Franklin St. road. (Inf. clips, microfilm and D&MC History).
