Description

Herald and Review Library: Gates, Pfc. William A. "Bill"
Article on back of photo: "Gates Home From Campaigns In North Africa, Sicily, Italy; A battle-weary veteran of Old Blood and Guts Patton's Seventh army--Pfc. William A. "Bill" Gates, home for a rest--says the pepper-upper of his Africa-Sicily-Italy experiences was the 'in person' shows over there by Carole Landis, Martha Raye, Al Jolson and Adolph Menjou. 'The boys really felt better after they were treated to those shows', the soldier of more than three years' experience said. He joined up in August, 1940, and went overseas Oct. 24, 1942--ripe for the African invasion. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gates, 1390 West Division Street."
