Herald and Review Library: Knuth, Seaman 1st class Donald; Article on back of photo; "Donald Knuth, Home on furlough from the active duty on a U. S. destroyer in the Atlantic ocean. Donald Knuth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Knuth of 1352 East Olive street, said he has seen a 'little action'. Seaman Knuth, first class, arrived in Decatur Sunday and will leave tomorrow to report at an East Coast port. A resident of Decatur all his life, he was a Review carrier for three and on-half years, and was graduated from Decatur high school in June, 1940. Entering the navy on Jan. 14, 1941, he received his training at the Great Lakes Naval Training station."
