Photograph of J. R. Paisley, President of the Standard Life Insurance Co. This company was brought to Decatur in 1911 through his efforts. It was then the Mutual Protective League of which he was supreme president. In 1914 the name was changed to Protective League Life Ins. Co. The name became Standard Life Ins. Co. in 1918. This company moved to St. Louis in 1922 but retained offices here. In 1925 he sold his interests in the company and retired from the insurance business, but in 1933 he came back to Decatur and re-opened an insurance office under the same name of Standard Life. The Standard Office Bldg. was the former home of the insurance co., which bought it in 1920, but in 1934 the name was changed from Standard Life Bldg. to Standard Office Bldg.
