Mrs. William Barnes Sr. (d. 2/22/1953) was a civic leader, and widow of Dr. William Barnes Sr. Mrs. Barnes was one of the original organizers of the Decatur Day Nursery Association. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Decatur and Macon County Hospital. Mrs. Barnes was also the last surviving charter member of the Stephen Decatur Chapter of the D.A.R., a life member of the Country Club and the Decatur Club, and a patroness of the Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority at Millikin University,
