Description

Photograph of House on 226 N. Franklin Street. "Though this picture was made after the Jasper J. Peddecord house at 226 N. Franklin street had deteriorated, it was at one time one of the handsomest in the city. It had 14 rooms and was long a center of Decatur's social life. Mr. Peddecord came to Decatur in 1838 and was in the mercantile business. Jasper street was named for him. Later, with Lowber Burrows, he founded a bank. the house was torn down in 1912 when C. C. LeForgee bought the property and bricks from the house were used in the new store buildings. Photo used 6/9/1912 and 2/4/1951."
