Description

Photograph of Charles L. Hovey (D. 3/1/1917). He came to Decatur from Bloomington in 1880, and worked as an agent for the Illinois Central Railroad and the P.D.&E. Railroad for 18 years. He also worked for the Cereal Mill, V.H. Parke & Son, and Decatur Milling Co. In 1904, he was appointed the superintendent of the Masonic Home in Sullivan, IL, where his wife was also named matron. They worked there for 8 years. In 1913, he became the district agent for the The Youth's Companion and moved to Normal, IL. He and his wife was prominent in Masonic circles, was a member of the Masonic Home board, and a worthy grand patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Decatur Chapter No. 111. The photo was taken by Sleeth, and used in the Decatur Herald or Daily Review.
