Photograph of Walter Hutchin (d. 12/18/1917). He was a shoe salesman for 29 years. Came to Decatur in 1880, and worked or W.F. Busher in a shoe store on E. Main St. After 4 years, he left Busher and bought shoe stock of I.B. Massey at 117 N. Water St., remained there until 1895 when he moved to 155 N. Water St., and then later to 139 N. Water St. In 1899, Hutchin became partners with Bert J. Hardy. In 1909, he sold his business to W.J. Raupp and Ben Young. In 1910, he was the manager of the Decatur Home Telephone Co. for a short time. He was also a trustee for the Martin-Phares Shoe Co. for a short time, and then became the manager of the shoe department at the H.S. Gebhart Department Store. The photo was taken by Sleeth, and ran in the Decatur Daily Review on August 16, 1909.
