Description

Photograph of Capt. Robert P. Lytle; (died May 4, 1913). Assistant postmaster. He was appointed postmaster in 1875 and held that office several years. In 1897 he was named assistant postmaster. Before entering the post office he formed a partnership with T. T. Roberts under the name Roberts & Lytle and manufactured coffins. This firm was carried on as the Decatur Coffin Co. until 1875. In 1887 he became senior partner in the Lytle & Echles Hardware Co. but sold out in 1892. He served in the Civil War and was first commander of the Dunham Post, G.A.R.
